ITT specializes in vacuum deposition of high reflectance silver coatings. The following specifications apply to ITT's coating expertise:
- Typical visible reflectance average for high reflectance silver coatings is 98.4%
- Despite the reflectance achieved, the coatings are environmentally stable and have been characterized for 5-year ambient exposures.
- Exposure of the coatings to controlled environments shows losses of less than 0.2% reflectance degradation due to aging.
- Due to the fact that all coatings need to be cleaned, ITT incorporates documentation with all of the high reflectors - outlining the required cleaning and environmental care of your silver coating.
Since coating stress is a significant concern for light weighted optics, ITT is leading the effort to reduce silver coating stress. Typical silver coatings are on the order of 30k to 60k psi. However, new processes have allowed ITT to diminish the coating stress to 3.5k psi or lower. Stresses of this diminished magnitude, combined with 2+ meter coating capability and environmentally stable silver coatings, gives ITT - and your organization - a competitive edge in silver reflector fabrication.
